This form of therapy can be incredibly effective for issues such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, and family dynamics. By working closely with trained professionals, children can gain resilience, build self-esteem, and learn healthy ways to manage their emotions, ultimately fostering better overall well-being. Choosing psychotherapy could provide your child with a safe space to explore their inner world and equip them with tools for long-term personal growth.
For younger children around 3 and up to about 12 y.o. play therapy is often chosen as a mean to support the child’s development.
We involve parents
Our child psychologist involves you as parents; we help you with tools and specialist counselling. Parent’s involvement is a crucial component that will significantly enhance the therapeutic process.
As a parent, your active participation not only provides your child with reassurance and support, but it also helps in aligning therapeutic goals and strategies between the family and the child therapist. During therapy sessions, parents might be invited to share their perspectives, observe therapeutic techniques, and learn strategies to implement at home. This collaborative approach ensures that the therapy is consistent and effective beyond the clinical setting. By engaging in this process, parents can gain insights into their child’s emotional and behavioral needs, foster a stronger parent-child bond, and contribute to their child’s overall emotional growth and healing journey.
Play therapy
Play therapy is a highly effective therapeutic approach designed to help children express their emotions and navigate complex issues through the medium of play. Unlike traditional therapy methods that rely on verbal communication, play therapy leverages the natural way in which children explore and make sense of the world around them. For parents considering this approach, it’s important to understand that play therapy creates a safe and supportive environment where children can express feelings they may find difficult to articulate verbally. Through engagement in play, children can reveal their fears, anxieties, and hopes, providing therapists with insights into their emotional and psychological world.
The tools used in play therapy are diverse and carefully chosen to enable children to explore a wide range of emotions and scenarios. Common tools include toys such as dolls, action figures, and puppets, which are used to act out situations and emotions. Art supplies such as crayons, clay, and paints allow children to express themselves creatively and symbolically. Sand trays and miniature figures are also frequently used, offering children an opportunity to create and manipulate worlds, helping them to project and work through their internal experiences. These tools are strategically selected to correspond with the child’s specific needs and therapeutic goals. Through these play-based interactions, children can gain confidence, develop problem-solving skills, and build resilience, ultimately supporting their emotional well-being and personal growth.
Family therapy
Family therapy is an invaluable resource for parents dealing with their child’s behavioural challenges, as it focuses on fostering healthy dynamics within the family unit. This therapeutic approach recognises that a child’s behaviour is often influenced by family relationships and aims to address any underlying issues. By involving the whole family in sessions, therapists can observe interactions and communication patterns, allowing them to identify areas for improvement. Techniques such as role-playing, communication exercises, and structured discussions are utilised to enhance understanding and cooperation among family members. Family therapy provides a supportive space where families can collaboratively explore solutions, build stronger connections, and develop new strategies to manage behavioural difficulties, ultimately leading to a more harmonious home environment.
